Stages -
- Stage 3 and 4 of sleep are called Delta. They are the deepest and most restful stages. - All Delta sleep is done in the first 4 hours of sleep. - Stage 5 is REM sleep. REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement and the brain is very active and you are dreaming - REM sleep is very important for brain health and skipping sleep results in the less REM sleep . |
Sleep Disorders - - Many teenagers have the sleep disorder - delayed sleep phase syndrome. This is when a person pushes back their sleep phases by having a wide variety of bed times. - The most common sleep disorder is insomnia - difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. - Sleep disorders can be serious conditions that require seeing a sleep specialist. |
